Rooted in Vermont, Growing Safe Spaces: Why Nicole Chose CSAC’s Youth & Family Team

Rooted in Vermont, Growing Safe Spaces: Why Nicole Chose CSAC’s Youth & Family Team

Nicole Rossi-Eugair is a social worker, a new parent, and a lifelong Vermonter. She grew up in this community, trained in Vermont schools, and is now using her voice and her care to give back—right here at home.

“I’ve always felt strongly about advocacy and building safe spaces,” Nicole says. “I wanted to work for a community-based organization that’s walking alongside people—especially our most vulnerable. That’s what led me to CSAC.”

Nicole is part of the Youth & Family Services team at the Counseling Service of Addison County. She is an office-based clinician supporting children, youth, and families—many of whom are navigating complex and overwhelming systems. And for Nicole, this work is more than a job. It is a calling rooted in her belief that community health is shared health.

“When someone in a community is struggling, it impacts all of us,” she says. “We can’t work in silos. The work we do at CSAC is about holding the whole community in view—creating space, creating safety, and growing connection.”

Supported to Show Up Fully

Nicole describes CSAC as a place that practices what it preaches. “We talk about wraparound services for clients,” she says. “But CSAC also wraps around me. I feel held here. There's a level of intentionality about co-care—about supporting one another—that’s not just nice to have, it’s necessary in this field.”

Now, as a new mom with an 8-month-old at home, Nicole especially values the agency’s flexibility. “I’ve been able to shape a schedule that supports both my family life and my professional growth,” she says. “That’s the reason I stay here—and the sense of community I feel with my colleagues and supervisors.”

A Place to Explore and Grow

Nicole is early in her career—she earned her master’s degree just last December—but she has already found a breadth of opportunities to try on different roles. As an intern and early career professional, she has worked in outpatient care, crisis services, and in schools.

“Every program here is different, and you’re encouraged to explore what you’re drawn to,” she says. “Supervisors are open and supportive. They want you to find your passion.”

Whether you are part of CSAC’s Trauma-Informed Systems work or supporting community advocacy efforts, there’s space for both professional growth and personal transformation.

“You can keep reinventing yourself here,” she says. “You can grow your voice and grow your skills. That’s what makes this such a good place for people who are just starting out.”

We Need More Helpers

Nicole also hopes to see more young people consider careers in youth and family mental health—especially in Vermont, where many agencies have aging workforces and a deep need for fresh energy and new voices.

“This is a place where someone who wants to give back, who wants to learn and grow and belong, can thrive,” she says. “If you’re looking for purpose and a place to build something lasting, this is it.”
