Emergency and crisis

24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

The Counseling Service provides 24 hour emergency services for residents of Addison County experiencing a mental health crisis. Such crises may include:

  • Depression
  • Acute anxiety
  • Suicidal and homicidal thinking or behavior
  • Family problems
  • Increased symptoms or onset of symptoms of mental illness
  • Alcohol or drug emergencies

We help callers resolve the immediate crisis and make plans for follow up services if needed. We can help with:

  • Risk assessment
  • Safety planning
  • Supportive counseling
  • Critical incident/post traumatic stress management
  • Short-term and follow up treatment and referral
  • Coordination of other services such as hospitalization, intensive outpatient programs, and community resources
  • Psychiatric consultation

These services are provided on the telephone, face-to-face at our office, Porter Hospital Emergency Room, Middlebury College Health Services, or in the field depending on the situation.
