Substitute Staff: A Flexible Way to Stay Involved

CSAC’s substitute roles are perfect for people like Chris—individuals who care deeply about the work but want to shape their schedule around other commitments. Substitutes can pick up shifts when it works for them, supporting residential homes or community-based programs in a way that keeps them connected without the pressure of a fixed schedule.

For Chris, this means he can travel, spend time with loved ones, and enjoy retirement—while still contributing his skills and staying part of a team he values.

Over the years, Chris has built strong relationships with the people he supports—helping them build independence, confidence, and community connections. As a Residential Instructor, he’s been part of everyday routines and big milestones, always offering steady encouragement and a calm presence.

“I’ve always felt this work is about showing up consistently and listening,” he says. “You become part of someone’s life—and they become part of yours.”

Even in a substitute role, those relationships endure. Chris is glad he’ll still get to visit familiar homes and see familiar faces.
